DUSHANBE, January 9, Asia-Plus – A Tajik governmental delegation led by Finance Minister Safarali Najmuddinov today left for Beijing to prepare a package of documents that are expected to be singed during President Rahmonov’s state visit to China on January 15.
According to the government, the main issues to figure in President Rahmonov’s discussions with Chinese officials are projects aimed at enhancement of Tajikistan’s energy sector and the construction of new cement and packaging-producing plants in the Khatlon province.
A source at the government said that Tajikistan seeks China’s investing in a number of energy projects. In particular, the Tajik side intends to submit for consideration to Chinese authorities projects for the construction of the Yovon hydroelectric power station (HPS) on the Zarafshon River and the coal-run electric power station at the coal deposit Fon-Yaghnob in northern Tajikistan.
The Yovon HPS was projected in the Eighties already. It will be capable to generate 960 million kWh of electricity per year, according to the source.
Tajik and Chinese presidents are scheduled to sign a treaty on friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
