Tajik MPs decide to postpone consideration of production partition bill

DUSHANBE, February 7, Asia-Plus – The Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) considered a bill on production partition agreements at a February 7 sitting presided over by its speaker Saydullo Khairulloyev.

However, because of difference of opinions on the bill it was decided to adjourn the consideration of this bill until the next sitting of the third session of the Majlisi Namoyandagon that will be held on February 9.

Member of the Majlisi Namoyandagon Committee on International Matters, Public Associations and Information, Yusuf Akhmedov addressing the session noted, “The law should concern only mineral raw materials such as oil and natural gas but not all the natural resources as it is mentioned in the bill.”

“For example, reserves of metallic ores, especially precious and rare metals, have approximately been estimated,” said MP, “And if we now determine that they are not subject to partition between state and investors, Tajikistan will scarcely be attractive for investors.”

The Majlisi Namoyandagon speaker suggested that parliament’s committees should review the bill and then discuss it on the plenary basis.
