Rahmon proposes 20-percent rise in public sector wages version

Speaking at a joint meeting of both chambers of parliament, President Emomali Rahmon on December 23 proposed to strengthen the level of population's social security and increase the minimum wage, public sector wage, pensions and allowances

Rahmon, in particular, noted that the government regards the social protection, science and education, healthcare and culture among priorities in its policy and has been undertaking all necessary actions towards the smooth development of these areas since the initial days of the country’s independence.

“Now, with the aim of supporting vulnerable groups of the population, the Government of the country is instructed to increase an amount of social allowance for poor families annually from July 1, 2023 to 2025 from the current 512 somonis to 836 somonis, as well as additionally for each child of these families, according to this period, take measures to allocate funds from 34 somonis to 152 somonis,” Rahmon said.

He noted that in order to improve the social status of the population he proposed to increase the salary of law enforcement officers and military personnel by 25 percent and the salary of other employees of these bodies by 20% starting from March 1, 2023 and to increase the salary of employees of education, science, healthcare, social protection sectors and scholarships by 20 percent starting from July 1, 2023.

He also proposed to increase the amount of basic pensions by 20 percent starting from July 1, 2023.   

Rahmon also proposed that insurance benefits, which are assigned and paid in accordance with the RT Law “On Insurance and State Benefits" should be indexed to the extent of the inflation rate of the last two years starting from July 1, 2023; that means increase by not less than 16%;

Other current pensions should be increased by 20% of the basic pension rate, the president added.
