Tajikistan to tighten border control in Sughd province

KHUJAND, January 27, 2011, Asia-Plus  — A January 27 meeting of the Coordination Council of Law Enforcement and Power-Wielding Bodies in Sughd province adopted a decision to take measures to tighten border, Rano Bobojonova, the chairwoman of the information analysis department within the Sughd regional administration, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.

According to her, the meeting considered issues related to construction of the frontier infrastructure facilities and improvement of providing border-crossing checkpoints with electricity and drinking water.  Local authorities are to find funds for implementation of these measures.

“The Council also took a decision on resumption of activity of voluntary public order squads in the province,” Bobojonova said, adding that the meeting also decided to strengthen ideological work among the population via mass media.
