Two operations by drug control officers lead to the seizure of more than 52 kilos of narcotics

DUSHANBE, March 28, 2011, Asia-Plus  — Two separate operations carried out by officers from the Drug Control Agency (DCA) have led to the seizure of more than 52 kilograms of narcotics, the DCA press center reports.

On March 22, officers from DCA’s office in Gorno Badakhshan detained Afghan national who illegally crossed the border river in Ishkashim district.  Two packages containing more than 14 kilograms of hashish and one kilogram of heroin were confiscated from him, the source said.

On March 26, resident of Khatlon’s Hamadoni district was detained in Dushanbe on suspicion of having been involved in drug trafficking.  40 packages containing narcotic drug that tested positive to hashish weighing more than 37 kilograms were found hidden in his car.

Criminal proceedings have been instituted against the detained drug peddlers and an investigation is under way.
