Seven residents of Sughd arrested abroad for drug trafficking in H1 2011

KHUJAND, July 29, 2011, Asia-Plus  — In January-June 2011, seven residents of Sughd province have been arrested abroad for drug trafficking.

According to the counternarcotics agency’s office in Sughd, five of them have been detained in Russia and two others have been detained in Kyrgyzstan.  In all, some 85 kilograms of narcotics have been confiscated from them.

Over the same period last year, five residents of Sughd were arrested abroad for drug trafficking and a total of 23 kilograms of narcotics were confiscated from them.

In the meantime, six foreign citizens (one from Russia and five from Kyrgyzstan) have been arrested in Sughd province for drug trafficking over the first six months of this year.  A total of 61 kilograms of hashish were confiscated from the Kyrgyz nationals and 643 grams of heroin were confiscated from the Russian citizen.

Sughd law enforcement authorities have seized 359 kilograms of narcotics, with 34 kilograms of them being heroin, over the first half-year of 2011.
