DUSHANBE, August 19, 2011, Asia-Plus – Head of the Tajik State National Security Committee Saymumin Jatimov and the U.S. Ambassador to Tajikistan Mr. Ken Gross have signed an addendum to the Tajik-U.S. agreement on drug control and law enforcement cooperation signed on August 18 in Dushanbe.

According to the agreement, the U.S. Government will provide additional assistance to Tajikistan worth $7 million for strengthening of border control, assistance to law enforcement reform and improvement of justice system in Tajikistan through training programs, development of infrastructure and provision of equipment and experts.

According to the U.S. Embassy, the funds will be allocated to support the implementation of the police reform and implementation of Tajikistan’s National Border Strategy. Part of these funds will be allocated to support the Tajik Drug Control Agency.

“The funds will also help to support Tajikistan’s efforts on human trafficking through local and international NGOs,” the source has said.
