Over 35 kilos of narcotics seized in Shouroobod in one operation on Dec 31

DUSHANBE, January 3, 2012, Asia-Plus  — An operation carried out by officers from the police station in Khatlon’s Shouroobod district on December 31 led to the seizure of more than 35 kilograms of hemp.

“32-year-old unemployed, P.E., was detained on the night of December 31 in the Shouroobod district bordering Afghanistan,” said the source.  “8.5 kilograms of hemp were confiscated from him and 27 kilograms of hemp were found in his house.”

The detainee said he had purchased the hemp from two local residents.

Several days earlier, the Dushanbe-Moscow train conductor, O.N., was arrested on suspicion of having been involved in drug pushing.  “Some five kilograms of heroin were found hidden in his luggage,” the source said.

Tajik police officers reportedly intercepted some 1,900 kilograms of narcotics last year.  A totaled included 131.5 kilograms of raw opium, 236.5 kilograms of heroin and some 1,532 kilograms of cannabis.
