More than 40 tons of expired and low-quality medicines destroyed in Tajikistan last year

Lower Chamber of Tajikistan’s Parliament approved today the amendments to the law “On medicines and pharmacy” which were offered by the Tajik President.

When presenting the amendments Tajik Health Minister Nusratullo Salimov said that from now on Tajikistan guarantees protection of information about medicines registered in the country.

He said implementation of these requirements is one of the conditions for Tajikistan to enter WTO.

“Currently 3.244 medicines, including 74 medicines of national producers, are registered in Tajikistan,” he said.

Salimov also said that in 2011 Tajikistan imported medicines worth more than $120mln. In 2000 the republic imported medicines worth $4.9mln.

“Related governmental bodies control the quality of imported medicines. In 2011 more than 41 tons of low-quality and expired medicines were seized and destroyed in the country,” he added.
