Enhancing capacity at border crossing points along Uzbek-Tajik border

DUSHANBE, June 16, 2012, Asia-Plus  — Five days long Advanced Level Training Course for BLOs concluded at the Institute for Upgrade Qualifications for Customs Staff in Dushanbe, Tajikistan on June 15.

According to United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC)’s Office in Dushanbe, the training was conducted in the framework of UNODC Regional Project XAC/K22 “Countering the trafficking of Afghan opiates via the northern route by enhancing the capacity of key border crossings points (BCPs) and through the establishment of Border Liaison Offices (BLOs)”.

With the purpose of enhancing capacity, this training course was conducted for officers of LEAs of the Republics of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan as Advanced Course for Border Liaison Officers who already participated in the Basic Level Training Course conducted in both countries in 2011.

The trainee officers were from the Customs, State Committee for National Security, Drug Control Agency and Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Tajikistan and from Customs and Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Uzbekistan.  The trainees went through training topics on integrated border management, advanced techniques on intelligence analysis, controlled delivery, presentation skills and professional ethics, human trafficking and inter-agency and international cooperation, and they stated that this course improved their skills and expressed their satisfaction with the training.

A total of 13 law enforcement officers were trained in this training course.
