Russian chief prosecutor complains that ‘citizens of friendly countries are fighting on the side of Ukraine’

Russian Prosecutor-General has expressed concerned about the fact that citizens of some post-Soviet countries are fighting on the side of Ukraine.

A joint board meeting of the Prosecutor-General’s Offices of Tajikistan and Russia took place in Dushanbe on July 26.  

TASS says that during a meeting with his Tajik counterpart Yusuf Rahmon that took place after the joint board meeting, Krasnov noted that recruitment of mercenaries and proliferation of weapons in Ukraine is an extremely dangerous threat to the CIS countries.

“Under the current situation caused by the events in Ukraine, these threats are increasing.  Today, our countries our countries face new and extremely dangerous threats.  Among them are participation of citizens of the CIS member nations participation in hostilities as mercenaries and proliferation of weapons and ammunition,” Krasnov was cited as saying.  

He further stressed that to address these threats the CIS member nations and their law enforcement agencies need to update the interaction schemes for improvement of the efficiency of work in these areas.

Russian and Tajik chief prosecutors reportedly signed a program of cooperation between the supervisory authorities for the period up to 2024. 

The program provides for the joint fight against crime and threats such as terrorism and extremism.
