KHUJAND, March 2, 2011, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan’s first private FM radio, Tiroz, has marked its 10th anniversary.
Radio Tiroz went on the air in Khujand, the capital of Sughd province on March 1, 2001 at 103.7 FM. Since July 1, 2005, the radio station has aired at 106.7 FM.
The Tiroz director general Khurshed Ulmasov says the radio station is 21 hours one the air: from 6:00 am of one day to 3:00 am of next day. “Tiroz is mainly entertainment-based radio station running programs in Tajik and Russian alternately,” Ulmasov said, noting that Tiroz has an audience of more than 1.5 million people.
According to him, Radio Tiroz now actively collaborates with radio stations from other nations — Radio Almaz in Kyrgyzstan and Radio Van in Armenia.
FM radios Asia-Plus, Vatan, Imrouz, A-FM, and Sadoi Dushanbe now operate in Tajikistan alongside Radio Tiroz.
