Volgograd police promise to probe into mishaps of Tajik labor migrant

KHUJAND, May 28, 2011, Asia-Plus — The police directorate in Russia’s Volgograd region has promised to probe into mishaps of former Tajik labor migrant Qahramon Musoboyev, who had become victim of abuse and exploitation and had finally become invalid.

Musoboyev told Asia-Plus on Saturday that he received a letter from the Volgograd police directorate, in which they promise to probe into his case.

“In 2004, representatives from Tojikkhorijakor (external labor migration enterprise) at the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection recruited people for seasonal work in Volgograd region,” said Musoboyev, “When we arrived in Volgograd, the person who was accompanying us, at first, handed over me to one farmer and then to another one named Bogdanenko, who proved to be police officer, for 2,000 Russian rubles.  They then sold us to other farmers, beat us.  Five months later, I escaped, leaving my passport at Bogdanenko’s house.  It was winter and I got my legs frostbitten.  Fortunately, I found kind people who took me home free of charge.”

In Khujand, Musoboyev underwent six operations but eventually he lost his legs (doctors had to amputate Musoboyev’s legs).

Musoboyev has filed lawsuit against Tojikkhorijakor’s office for Sughd and court found Tojikkhorijakor’s office guilty and ordered it to pay 8,000 somoni to Musoboyev.  “However, I have not yet received this money,” Musoboyev said.
