DUSHANBE, June 2, 2011, Asia-Plus — A prominent Tajik religious and political figure, Hoji Akbar Turajonzoda, has called on visitors to his website (turajon.com) to seek alternative ways of access to the website. The website can be accessed by using proxy servers.
Mr. Turajonzoda considers that in addition to recommendation of the State Communications Service head Beg Zuhurov uncertainty of Internet providers has also contributed to imposition of restriction on access to his religious website.
“When access to the website was restricted, I was outside the country,” said Hoji Akbar Turajonzoda, “When I returned home, I familiarized myself with a letter by Beg Zuhurov to Internet providers, in which he does not order but asks them to temporarily restrict access to the website because of technical problems.”
Hoji Akbar Turajonzoda considers restricting access to the turajon.com website is unconstitutional, because the website is not political.
We will recall that access to the turajon.com website was restricted on May 20. As of May 20, the website could only be accessed by using proxy servers.
The website was created by Turajonzoda and his brothers Eshoni Nouriddin and Eshoni Mahmoudjon a year ago. Since then, it has become popular among users both in Tajikistan and abroad. The website has reportedly had more than one million visits.
Turajon.com is devoted to Islamic issues. Turajonzoda and his brothers use it to publish their views, and sometimes answer questions from site visitors about religious issues. Besides, articles by them about culture of Islam were posted on the website.
