Public transport fares raised in northern Tajikistan again

KHUJAND, July 8, 2011, Asia-Plus  – Public transport fares have risen in the northern Sughd province for the second time.

Abdujalil Bobojonov, deputy head of the branch of the Association for Public Conveyance by Motor Transport in Sughd province, says the fares were raised yesterday following an order by the Ministry of Transport (MoT).

According to him, intraurban transport fares have risen 10 percent, while commuter and interurban transport fares have risen on average 13-15 percent.

Current fares for fixed-route taxies are 90 diram (0.9 somoni) in Chkalovsk and 1.00 somoni in Khujand and Isfara.

Fares for interurban buses have not yet been raised.

Pubic transport fares in other cities and districts of the province will be reviewed with participation of local authorities and antimonopoly agency, Bobojonov added.

We will recall that for the first time the public transport fares were raised in Sughd province on April 23 in line with a resolution passed by the Ministry of Transport on February 4, 2001.
