14 tons of non-iodized salt withdrawn from shelves in Kulob

KULOB, July 13, 2011, Asia-Plus  — 14 tons of non-iodized salt have been withdrawn from shelves in Khatlon’s Kulob region over the first six months of this year, Rustam Nematov, head of the branch of Tojikstandart (agency for standardization, metrology, certification and trade inspection) in Kulob, announced at a news conference in Kulob on July 12.

According to him, their food lab has tested 729 food products over the report period and 10 percent of them have been found to be unfit to eat.

“Over the report period, we have also withdrawn 540 kilograms of cotton (cooking) oil, 109 kilograms of confectionery, 67 kilograms of macaroni, 18 kilograms of tea, 67 kilograms of cultured milk foods, dozens of kilograms of sausages and some 200 decaliters of alcohol and soft drinks from shelves in the area,” Nematov said, noting that spoiled foods were also discovered in Vose and Hamadoni districts.
