DUSHANBE, September 14, 2011, Asia-Plus — On Tuesday September 13, Ms. Akiko Sato, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Japan in Dushanbe, and Mr. Aslonbek Abdurahmonov, Chairman of Jirgatol district, attended a handover ceremony at Secondary School No 30 in Algha jamoat, Jirgatol district, the Japanese Embassy in Dushanbe reports.
“The Project for Rehabilitation of Secondary School No.30 in Algha Jamoat, Jirgatol District” funded by Government of Japan in the framework of Grant Assistance for the Grass–roots Human Security Projects (GGP) with the total amount of US$106,058 has been successfully completed.
Constructed in 1962, the Secondary School No.30 was extremely in poor condition. Due to the crumbled roof and floor, one building out of two buildings has not been used for many years and only the other old building has been available for the education of students. The school capacity was not sufficient to accommodate all students in the area.
Through the project, a new building with six classrooms and two staff rooms was constructed instead of the crumbled first building, and the educational equipment such as desks and chairs was provided there. Moreover, rehabilitation of the second building was implemented by the financial support of Jirgatol district. Consequently, the new school infrastructure will enhance school environment and improve the educational level of children in Jirgatol district.
Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) is provided to local governments, educational/ medical institutions and International NGOs in developing countries. GGP supports projects in the human security sectors at the grassroots level. GGP has extended more than US$ 19.8 million for 271 projects in Tajikistan since 1996.
