Such heat has not been seen in Tajikistan for 78 years

Tajikistan’s Hydrometeorological Center (Hydromet) says      that this week, daytime air temperature in some areas of Tajikistan will rise to +47ºC.

According to Hydromet, the take-in of hot air to the territory of Tajikistan will increase from July 18 to July 20.  Therefore, the daytime air temperature in the plains will be +39ºC — +44ºC, and in the southern districts of Khatlon province (Shahritous, Panj, Jaihun, Farkhor and some other districts), the daytime temperature will be +45ºC — +47ºC.

In foothills of Khatlon province and some mountain areas, the weather will be hot too – up to +35ºC — +40ºC.

An official source at Hydromet told Asia-Plus that before that, the thermometer rose in Tajikistan to the mark of +47ºC in 1944.

“78 years ago, such heat weather was registered in Aivaj settlement of Shahritous district,” the source added.

Hydromet warns that the temperature rise can lead to accelerated melting of glaciers, the weakening and destruction of rocks, landslides and mudflows, and an increase in the water levels in rivers.
