Tajikistan has taken part in the 9th ministerial conference dealing with the environment and education for a sustainable development. The event is hosted in Nicosia by the government of Cyprus, during the period from October 5-7, 2022.
The event, officially entitled “The 9th Environment for Europe Ministerial Conference”, is organized in cooperation with the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe.
The conference reportedly focuses on three main themes: Sustainable Infrastructure; Sustainable Tourism; and Education for Sustainable Development.
High-level delegations from more than 70 countries, including countries of the UNECE and the Mediterranean Region, the Middle East and Asia, have attended the event.
The conference has highlighted international issues related to the environment and education in a bid to achieve sustainable development.
Tajikistan’s delegation in the conference is headed by Bahodour Sheralizoda, Head of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of Tajikistan.
In a statement delivered at the event, Sheralizoda once again outlined the commitment of Tajikistan to cooperate with international community on the declaration of 2025 as the Year of Glaciers Preservation, according to the press center of the Committee for Environmental Protection.
He reportedly also called for creation of the International Fund for Glacier Preservation.
Sheralizoda, in particular, noted that glacier melting issue of critical significance and Tajikistan one of the most vulnerable countries to the effects of climate change.
He reportedly also noted that Tajikistan intends to carry out work on updating the country’s Red Book, using international best practices and technical support from partners for development.
