Recent torrential rain has caused a series of mudflows, landslides and rockfalls in the eastern Tajikistan (Rasht Valley), according to the Emergencies Committee under the Government of Tajikistan.
A landslide that occurred on November 4 in the territory of Mirzo village, Obi Garm jamoat subordinate to the city of Roghun, partially damage two residential buildings, Umeda Yusufi, a spokeswoman for the Emergencies Committee, told Asia-Plus in an interview Friday afternoon.
“In order to avoid casualties, the population was evacuated to a safe place. The work on mitigation of the disaster effects is under way,” Ms. Yusufi aid.
Rockfalls that occurred on the 83rd and 85th kilometers of the Dushanbe-Vahdat-Rasht highway temporarily blocked it.
Torrential rain caused mudflows in the Kumaki area, Nourobod district, some 100 kilometers east of Dushanbe. The mudflows temporarily blocked the Dushanbe-Vahdat-Rasht highway on the 94th and 95th kilometers.
Mudflows, carrying masses of rock and slurry, on November 4 blocked in several places the road connecting Labijar area with the administrative center of Sangvor district.
No injured was reported, according to the source.
