, April 26, Asia-Plus – An international two-day conference of donors of the “Social and Economic Development of Small Towns and Jamoats of Tajikistan” is opening in

tomorrow. 

            The conference is staged within the framework of “Local Governance Initiatives” Program run by the Tajik Branch of Open Society Institute/Assistance Foundation (OSI/AF) in cooperation with


Tajikistan


’s Association of Small Towns under support of the President’s Executive Office. 

The main objective of the conference is in presenting to donors and partners strategies and projects drafted by 19 municipal formations of Tajikistan over the past two years, as well as in facilitating establishment of contacts between them and potential donors for implementation of priorities and main directions of these strategies.  

A fair of projects is supposed to be held on sidelines of the conference.  

It is already the second such a conference held in


Tajikistan


.  The first one entitled “Strategy of Social and Economic Development of Small Towns of


Tajikistan


” was held in 2003.  Eight strategies and projects were presented at that conference for consideration to potential donors.
