Tajik-German economic cooperation discussed in Dushanbe

DUSHANBE, November 28, 2012, Asia-Plus — Two-day intergovernmental negotiations between Tajikistan and Germany on financial and technical cooperation began in Dushanbe today.

Co-chaired by Saidrahmon Nazriyev Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan and Andreas Gis, Head of Division, Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the meeting is considering issues related to the current cooperation and determining new directions of economic cooperation between the two countries for a two-year period, a source at the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MEDT) of Tajikistan said.

According to him, the sides agreed that support for sustainable development of Tajikistan’s economy remains the main direction of bilateral cooperation for the next two years.

Besides, Germany will continue providing support for enhancement of health, microfinance and energy sectors of Tajikistan as well as for promotion of vocational-technical education, environmental protection and innovative development, the source noted.

Tajik officials noted that cooperation with Germany facilitated implementation of Tajikistan’s national development strategy designed for the period until 2015 and the country’s poverty reduction strategy designed for 2013-2015.

The negotiations are expected to result in singing of a protocol.

According to data of a MEDT, Germany provided more than 170 million euros worth of technical and financial assistance to Tajikistan until 2011.

A two-way trade between Tajikistan and Germany over the first ten months of this year has valued at 28 million U.S. dollars, which is 4 percent more than n the same period last year.
