Forty sick with typhoid in Panj

QURGHON TEPPA, October 23, 2008, Asia-Plus — An outbreak of typhoid has been reported in Khatlon’s Panj district

Abdusattor Khushvakhtov, chief of staff of the Khatlon emergency management agency, told Asia-Plus that according to information received, 70 people were allegedly hospitalized in the district in mid-September and early October on suspicion of having contracted typhoid.  “A special group, comprising medical workers, was sent to the district and it turned out that 40 people had been diagnosed with the disease,” the Khatlon emergencies official said.  

In the meantime, the Khatlon health directorate head Sherali Buzmakov confirmed the typhoid outbreak in Panj and noted that 30 typhoid patients had been officially registered in Panj.  “The situation is now under control of the Ministry of Health and no new cases of typhoid have been reported in Panj,” Buzmakov said, noting that appropriate measures were taken to prevent spread of the disease.
