Energy minister hails Iran’s role in Tajik economic development

DUSHANBE, October 23, 2008, Asia-Plus – On Wednesday October 22, Tajik Energy and Industries Minister Gul Sherali evaluated Iran”s role in the development of his country”s infrastructure and economy as important and constructive, IRNA said.

Gul, who is also the Tajik head of Joint Economic Commission, further said that Tajik relations with its neighbor is increasing and development of ties takes place based on the two sides” national interests.

Describing Iran”s investment of US$180 million in the construction of Sangtuda-2 hydropower plant in Tajikistan as among the important examples of their close cooperation, he said that the share of Tajikistan in it stands at 40 million US dollars.

Citing construction of Istiqlol (Anzob) Tunnel by Iranian experts as well as a project to complement and install its light equipment as among the other areas of cooperation between the two countries, the Tajik minister also said that commissioning a tractor production line called ”Tajiran” is the manifestation of excellent collaboration.

Iranian companies are also implementing construction and road-building projects in Tajikistan, he said.

Meanwhile, agreements on the construction of a high-voltage power network transferring energy from Iran to Tajikistan via Afghanistan and vice versa have been reached by the two sides, he noted.

Hailing successful participation of the Iranian private sector in this country”s economic projects, Gul said that through Iranian investment poultry production has increased in Tajikistan.
