DUSHANBE, January 18, 2013, Asia-Plus  — Sharif Said, Chairman of Tajikistan’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI), met yesterday in Beijing, China with Sergey Katyrin, President of Russia’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry, who is also Head of the Russian National Unit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Business Council, according to the Tajik CCI press center.

The sides reportedly discussed a broad range of issues related to expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and the Russian Federation within the framework of the Organization at the meeting was reportedly held on sidelines of the SCO Business Council meeting.

Said and Katyrin, in particular, discussed state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation on jointly holding exhibitions and fairs, promoting cooperation between entrepreneurs of the two countries and solving migration problems.  They also considered issues of training personnel and informing business communities of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the Customs Union issues.

Issues related to drawing Russian regions for cooperation with Tajikistan in sectors like energy, mining and agriculture were also among major topics of the meeting.

On the same day, Sharif Said met with Yu Ping, Head of the Chinese National Unit of the SCO Business Council.

The two discussed state and prospects of further expansion of trade and economic cooperation between Tajikistan and China.

The SCO Business Council was created in accordance with the decision of the SCO Heads of State Council.  It is a non-governmental body which brings together the most influential members of the business communities of the six countries with the aim of boosting economic cooperation in the framework of the Organization, establishing direct links and dialogue among business and financial circles of the SCO member states, assisting practical promotion of multilateral projects determined in 2003 by the heads of government in the Program of Trade and Economic Cooperation.

Annual Session is the highest body of the Business Council which sets priorities and formulates main targets for its activity, decides on important issues concerning links with business associations from other states.

The SCO Business Council is an independent institution capable of taking advisory decisions and giving expert assessments on the involvement of members of the business communities of the SCO member states in trade, economic and investment interaction in the framework of the Organization.
