DUSHANBE, February 14, 2013, Asia-Plus — Internet World Stats has released a study displaying Internet usage and population in Asia.
Tajikistan has been ranked 25th among Asian countries in terms of the Internet usage. The country’s low Internet usage index has kept it practically at the very bottom of Internet World Stats’ list, alongside with Turkmenistan, which has been ranked 31st.
The study results show that 13 percent of Tajikistan’s population used Internet as of July 1, 2012. According to statistical data from Internet World Stats, little more than 1.012 people in Tajikistan used Internet as of July 1, 2012. Meanwhile, only 2,000 Internet users were registered in the country in 2000.
South Korea, Japan and Brunei Darussalam reportedly top the Asian countries in terms of the Internet usage – 82.5, 79.5 and 78 percent respectively.
Kazakhstan has been ranked 11th with, Kyrgyzstan – 13th, and Uzbekistan – 17th. In Kazakhstan, 45 percent of the population has used Internet over the report period, Kyrgyzstan – 39.9 percent, and Uzbekistan – 30.2 percent.
In Armenia, 60 percent of the population has used Internet and 50 percent of Azerbaijan’s population has used Internet over the report period.
Meanwhile, Tajik communications service agency says that there were 3.7 million Internet users in the country as of January 1, 2013. This number also includes mobile Internet users.
