Japan implements 5 projects to support education and health sectors in Tajikistan

DUSHANBE, February 26, 2013, Asia-Plus  — Within the framework of Grant Assistance for the Grass–roots Human Security Projects (GGP), the Government of Japan has supported Tajikistan to implement a multitude of projects to enhance the socio-economic conditions in local communities.

In accordance with GGP agenda, Mr. Hiroyuki Imahashi, Ambassador, Embassy of Japan in Dushanbe signed Grant Contracts for 5 different projects to support the education sector in Isfara, Kuhistoni Mastchoh, and Tavildara districts, as well as to enhance the healthcare system in Panjakent city and Nourobod districts, the Embassy of Japan said.

The projects to be implemented through GGP’s grants are as follows:

“The Project for Provision of Medical Equipment for Surgical Department of the Central Hospital in Panjakent City” for the amount of US$115,235 was co-signed with Mr. Khisrav Abdunazarov, chairperson of Panjakent district.

“The Project for Construction of a New Building for School No 65 in Kholeson Village, Chorkuh Jamoat, Isfara District” for the amount of US$113,359 was co-signed with Mr. Rahmonali Amirov, chairperson of Isfara district.

“The Project for Construction of Secondary School No 9 in Samjon Village, Langar Jamoat, Kuhistoni Mastchoh District” for the total amount of US$ 113,841 was co-signed with Mr. Suhrob Okhunov, chairperson of Kuhistoni Mastchoh district.

“The Project for Construction of Medical Clinic in Yakhak-Ust Jamoat, Nourobod District” for the amount of US$109,064 was co-signed with Mr. Saidamir Siyomardov, chairperson of Nourobod district.

“The Project for Construction of a New Building for Secondary School No 3 in Sangvor Jamoat, Tavildara District” for the amount of US$109,073 was co-signed with Mr. Himatsho Ghayratov, chairperson of Tavildara district.

These projects will be implemented by the people of Tajikistan.  Strengthening the education sector has been one of GGP’s primal focuses, and ensuring educational opportunities for the children will have a life-long positive impact on the lives, the Embassy of Japan noted.

Similarly, access to quality health care must be a fundamental right of every person and it is necessary in creating a safe and reliable society.

The government of Japan is committed to support Tajikistan to take the necessary measures to ensure the basic human rights and the betterment of people’s life.

Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) is provided to local governments, educational/medical institutions and International NGOs in developing countries. GGP supports projects in the human security sectors at the grassroots level.  Since 1996, GGP has reportedly extended more than US$ 23.1 million for 300 projects in Tajikistan.
