DUSHANBE, April 3, 2013, Asia-Plus – According to press release issued by the OSCE Office in Tajikistan, a border management training course started yesterday at the OSCE Border Management Staff College (BMSC).
Twenty Afghan and four Tajik senior border officials are taking part in the two-week course.
The participants will learn about international standards of border security management and latest methods and technologies to prevent transnational crimes. The course covers a range of border-related topics such as the control of borders, risk analysis models, intelligence information analysis, fraudulent document and impostor detection, anti-corruption, the fight against trafficking and money laundering, leadership and management techniques, and human rights issues.
It is co-organized by the OSCE and the UNDP Border Management Northern Afghanistan (BOMNAF) project funded by the European Commission.
“We have conducted six similar trainings together with the UNDP since 2012. So far we have trained more than 125 border officials from Afghanistan and Tajikistan who will contribute to more effective border police services,” said Julia Klaus, OSCE BMSC Director.
In his opening remarks, Hans Peter Larsen, the acting Head of the OSCE Office in Tajikistan, emphasized the importance of the training as well as the networking environment that this event creates for respective professionals in border management and security.
The course is part of the BSMC’s and its partners’ activities aimed at fostering reinforced border management capacity and trans-border co-operation in the Northern Provinces of Afghanistan and is the second of five such courses the OSCE BMSC and UNDP BOMNAF are planning this year.
