DUSHANBE, April 15, 2013, Asia-Plus – Tajik national air carrier, Tajik Air, has leased one more Western type aircraft.
According to the Tajik Air press center, Tajik national air carrier has obtained the Boeing 757-200 through financial leasing.
The 757-200 entered service with Eastern Air Lines in 1983. It is certified for a maximum capacity of 239, while the alternate version has a pair of over-the-wing emergency exits on each side, and can seat a maximum of 224. Although designed for short and medium length routes, the 757-200 has since been used in a variety of roles ranging from high-frequency shuttle services to transatlantic routes. Production for the 757-200 totaled 913 aircraft, making the type by far the most popular 757 model. According to Wikipedia, in July 2011, 673 examples were in service.
Tajik Air started operations on September 3, 1924 as Tajik Aviation. Its first route was Bukhara to Dushanbe, served by Junkers F-13 aircraft. It is the sixth oldest airline still in operation.
Tajik Air has its head office at Dushanbe International Airport in Dushanbe. The airline has its main hub at Dushanbe International Airport, and it retains a secondary focus point at Khujand International Airport.
The company now serves the following destinations: China (Urumqi); Iran (Tehran, Mashhad); Kazakhstan (Almaty); Kyrgyzstan (Bishkek); Russia (Irkutsk, Moscow, Novosibirsk, St Petersburg, Samara, Sochi, Surgut, and Yekaterinburg); Tajikistan (Khorog and Khujand); and United Arab Emirates (Sharjah).
Tajik Air’s fleet now includes one Boeing 757-200, two Boeing 737-500, one Boeing 737-300, one MA-60, one TU-154, two AN-28, one AN-26 and three helicopters MI-8 MTB.
