DUSHANBE, April 17, 2013, Asia-Plus — Tajik President Emomali Rahmon has sent a message of condolences to U.S. President Barack Obama over the deadly bombings at the Boston Marathon.
“We strongly condemn this inhuman act and we declare our support for efforts against this evil and come out for joining of efforts of international community in combating terrorism,” the message says.
President Rahmon also asked to convey his deep condolences to families and relatives of those killed in the bombings.
We will recall that the twin blasts on Monday killed three people including an 8-year-old boy and injured 176 others, some of whom were maimed by bombs packed with ball bearings and nails.
Reuters reports that authorities suspect whoever perpetrated the Boston Marathon bombings carried heavy devices made out of pressure cookers in dark-colored nylon bags or backpacks before dropping them near the finish line, causing the worst attack on U.S. soil since September 11, 2001.
U.S. President Barack Obama, who will travel to Boston on Thursday for a memorial service, on Tuesday called the bombings an “act of terror” and police said parts of central Boston could be closed for days.
No suspects were in custody and there were no claims of responsibility.
