KHUJAND, June 12, 2013, Asia-Plus — As a result of fire in a residential building in the village of Chuyanchi in Sughd’s Ghonchi district, the 23-yer-old woman and her 2-year-old daughter were killed.

According to the Ghonchi prosecutor’s office, the preliminary investigation has established that it was not an accident.

“The young woman burned her little daughter and herself to death after her brother-in-law (her husband’s brother) beat her once again,” an official source at the Ghonchi prosecutor’s office said.

“The chemical examination has established that the woman threw diesel oil on her daughter and herself and set themselves on fire,” he added.

Criminal proceedings have been instituted against her brother-in-law, Khurshed Shokirov, 38, under the provisions of Article 109 (2) of Tajikistan’s Penal Code – driving to suicide; an investigation is under way.

According to statistical data from the Interior Ministry’s office for Sughd province, it is the first criminal case over driving to suicide instituted in the area over the first five months of this year.  Meanwhile, nine such criminal proceedings were instituted in Sughd over the first six months of last year alone.
