DUSHANBE, September 25, 2008, Asia-Plus  — President Emomali Rahmon, who is currently participating at the 63 rd session of the UN General Assembly, held a series of talks with heads of delegations, politicians and representatives of business circles in New York yesterday, according to presidential press service.  

On Wednesday, he, in particular, held talks with South Korean Prime Minister Han Seung-soo.  The two considered a broad range of issues related to expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and South Korea in different fields. 

Rahmon noted that Tajikistan considers South Korea as its reliable partner in the region and attaches significance to expansion of cooperation  with it.  

Rahmon and Han discussed the possibility of expansion of bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the areas like energy, industry, electronics, telecommunications and agriculture.  

Rahmon invited the South Korean PM to pay an official visit to Tajikistan.  

            On September 24, the Tajik leader also met with Mr. William J. Burns, the US Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs.  State and further prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and the United States was a major topic of their talks.

The sides expressed readiness to develop interstate consultations on ways to enhance energy, transportation and communications sectors in Tajikistan as well as create energy market in the Central Asian region and establish firm ties with international financial institutions, the press service said. 

Rahmon and Burns  also exchanged views on the present situation in Afghanistan and prospects of development of this country.
