DUSHANBE, September 25, 2008, Asia-Plus  — On Wednesday September 24, President Emomali Rahmon met with the Director General  of UNSECO, Koichiro Matsuura in New York on sidelines of the ongoing 63rd session of the UN General Assembly.    

According to presidential press service, during the meeting, Rahmon and Matsuura discussed issues related to preservation of Tajik cultural and historical relics and expansion of Tajikistan’s cultural ties with international community.

The UNESCO director general noted that UNESCO will provide assistance to Tajikistan with preservation of cultural relics in the future as well.  

President Rahmon, for his part, noted that Tajikistan appreciates UNESCO’s support for celebration of the 1, 500th birthday anniversary of founder of Tajik-Persian classical literature Abu Abdullo Roudaki.     

On September 24, Rahmon also held talks with Prince Willem-Alexander of The Netherlands.  President  The Tajik leader and the Dutch Crown Prince discussed cooperation between Tajikistan and the Netherlands in he filed of use of water resources in the world, the press service said.      

Later, President Rahmon met with head of international non-government organization World Vision, Din Hirsh (phonetically spelled), presidential press service said.  World Vision is a relief and development organization dedicated to helping children and their communities worldwide reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and improving education and health opportunities.  It currently closely cooperates with relevant structures in Uzbekistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan.  President Rahmon offered this NGO to implement its projects aimed at improvement of mother and child health care in Tajikistan as well, the press service said.
