The event, which is being held under support of the Ministry of Health of Tajikistan and UNCIEF CO in Tajikistan, kicked off on August 1 and will last till August 10, an official source at the Institute for Obstetrics, Gynecology and Perinatology of Tajikistan told Asia-Plus Tuesday afternoon.
According to him, this campaign has been carried out in Tajikistan since 2002. “To-date, 58 of 69 maternal houses in Tajikistan have received the “Baby-Friendly” certification granted by UNICEF and the World Health Organization (WHO),” the source said.
The Baby-friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) was launched by WHO and UNICEF in 1991, following the Innocenti Declaration of 1990. The initiative is a global effort to implement practices that protect, promote and support breastfeeding.
Meanwhile, World Breastfeeding Week, which is globally coordinated by the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA), is celebrated worldwide August 1-7, 2013 or October 1-7, 2013. “Breastfeeding Support: Close to Mothers” is the theme for World Breastfeeding Week 2013, which highlights the importance of providing support to breastfeeding families.
