Tajik, Turkmen foreign ministers discuss regional railway construction project

DUSHANBE, October 18, 2013, Asia-Plus — On Thursday October 17, Tajik Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi met with his Turkmen counterpart Rashid Meredov in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan on the sidelines of a high-level conference organized by the Ukraine’s OSCE Chairmanship and the Government of Turkmenistan.

According to the Tajik MFA information department, the sides discussed state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Turkmenistan in sectors like transportation, trade, etc.

Implementation of the regional project for construction of a rail link connecting Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Turkmenistan was also among major topics of the meeting.  The sides, in particular, noted that implementation of that project would give a new impulse to further development of the regional transport network and expansion of the regional economic and trade cooperation.
