DUSHANBE, February 5, 2014, Asia-Plus — Deputy director of the Drug Control Agency under the President of Tajikistan (DCA), Ms. Bunafsha Odinayeva, yesterday met here with Mr. Steve Fagin, Chief of Section, the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs, U.S. Department of State.

According to the DCA press center, the two discussed issues related to state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation in combating drug trafficking.

Odinayeva and Fagin also discussed the current station on the Tajik-Afghan border and cooperation with liaison officers of Afghanistan’s Interior Ministry, who maintain close cooperation with Tajik drug control officers in preventing drug smuggling.

They also discussed cooperation between Tajik law enforcement and power-wielding structures in combating drug trafficking as well as prospects of further development of the Tajik counternarcotics agency.    

The Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs deals with U.S. foreign policy and U.S. relations with the countries of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.
