DUSHANBE, February 5, 2014, Asia-Plus — On Wednesday February 5, Shukurjon Zuhurov, Chairman of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament), met here with Seyed Mahmoud Sadri, Charge d’Affaires at the Iranian Embassy in Dushanbe.
Muhammadato Sultonov, a spokesman for the Majlisi Namoyandagon, says the two discussed issues related to inter-parliamentary cooperation between Tajikistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran.
According to him, Iranian diplomat conveyed invitation to Tajik parliamentary speaker to participate in the 9th Conference of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Parliamentary Union that will take place in the Iranian capital on February 18-19.
Meanwhile, Iranian news agency FNA cited Chairman of the Iranian Parliament”s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi as saying that speakers of almost all the Persian Gulf littoral states will participate in the event. Boroujerdi reportedly described the conference as important regarding the current situation in the Muslim World as well as global crises and expansion of terrorism in the region.
The Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States is composed of the parliaments of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member nations. It was established in Iran on June 17, 1999, with its head office situated in Tehran. The OIC Parliamentary UNION now has 53 members.
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is an international organization consisting of 57 member states. The organization attempts to be the collective voice of the Muslim world (Ummah) and attempts to safeguard the interests and ensure the progress and well-being of Muslims.
The OIC has a permanent delegation to the United Nations, and is the largest international organization outside of the United Nations.
