DUSHANBE, February 6, 2014, Asia-Plus – Tajik President Emomali Rahmon today morning left for Sochi to attend the opening ceremony of the 2014 Winter Olympics.
Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Aslov, Aide to the President for Foreign Policy Erkin Rahmatulloyev, Defense minister Sherali Mirzo, Chairman of the Committee for Youth, Sports and Tourism Affairs Maliksho Nematov, and Secretary General of Tajikistan’s National Olympic Committee Bahrullo Rajabaliyev are accompanying Rahmon on his trip to Sochi.
While in Sochi, Emomali Rahmon is expected to hold meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev.
Rahmon and Putin will exchange ratification notes on the government-to-government agreement between Tajikistan and Russia on conditions of deployment of a Russian military base in Tajikistan, a source said.
Besides, Tajik and Russian leaders are also expected to exchange views on state and prospects of further expansion bilateral cooperation between their countries.
Emomali Rahmon and his Kyrgyz counterpart Almazbek Atambayev are supposed to discuss a broad range of issues related to Tajik-Kyrgyz relations. A special attention will be given to the problems of demarcation and delimitation of disputed segments of the Tajik-Kyrgyz border.
President Rahmon is also expected to hold meetings with the Emir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Bohuslav Sobotka in Sochi, the source added.
