DUSHANBE, February 17, 214, Asia-Plus – Chairman of Tajikistan’s lower chamber (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament, Shukurjon Zuhurov, who is currently in Tehran to participate in the 9th Conference of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Parliamentary Union yesterday met there with Dr. Ali Larijani, Chairman of the Majles-e Shora-ye Eslami (the national legislative body of Iran).

Muhammadato Sultonov, a spokesman for the Majlisi Namoyandagon, says the sides discussed a broad range of issues related to parliamentary cooperation between Tajikistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Zuhurov reportedly appreciated Iran’s support for numerous projects being implemented in Tajikistan in different sectors and asked Iranian parliamentary speaker to help facilitate the completion of construction of the Istiqlol Tunnel in Tajikistan.

Dr. Larijani ordered Iranian relevant bodies to solve this issue as soon as possible, Sultonov said.

According to him, Zuhurov and Larijani also discussed cooperation between the parliaments of the countries within the framework of Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

Meanwhile, Iranian media sources report that Dr. Ali Larijani said on Sunday that Iran and Tajikistan should use all capacities available for expansion of parliamentary ties.  He noted that parliamentary relations would help boost mutual cooperation in other areas as well.

Iranian parliamentary speaker reportedly said that participation of Tajik parliamentary delegation in the OIC Parliamentary Union conference in Tehran would be effective to create new atmosphere for promotion of economic cooperation.
