DUSHANBE, April 2, 2014, Asia-Plus — Meetings within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) will impact positively on expansion of military and technical cooperation between Moscow and Dushanbe, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu stated in the Tajik northern city of Qairoqqum yesterday at a meeting with his Tajik counterpart Sherali Mirzo.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the SCO defense ministers’ meeting.

“I am sure that our today meetings both in a bilateral format and within the framework of the SCO will promote further expansion of bilateral military and technical relations between our countries,” Russian defense minister was quoted as saying by Russian news agency RIA Novosti.

According to him, the SCO is becoming one of most important structures not only in Central Asia but also in the East.

For his part, Tajik Defense Minister Sherali Mirzo noted that Tajikistan attached significance to cooperation with the Russian Federation.
