Tajik, Turkmen energy authorities negotiate Turkmen electricity supplies to Tajikistan

DUSHANBE, July 30, 2008, Asia-Plus  — Head of Barqi Tojik (Tajik electric systems) power holding Sharifkhon Samiyev is currently in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan to negotiate Turkmen electricity supplies to Tajikistan in the autumn-winter period, Ms. Ughuloy Khojayeva, deputy head of Barqi Tojik, told a press conference in Dushanbe on July 29.  

According to her, Turkmenistan supplied some 801 million kWh of electricity to Tajikistan in autumn-winter 2007-2008.  “We hope that the amount of electricity Turkmenistan will supply to Tajikistan in the upcoming autumn-winter season will not be fewer,” the Barqi Tojik official said.  

On Tajikistan’s electricity exports to the neighboring countries in the summer in exchange of electrical power received by Tajikistan during the winter months, Ms. Khojayeva noted that Tajikistan has supplied more than 530 million kWh of electricity to Uzbekistan so far.  “Over the past winter season, we have received some 492 million kWh of electricity from Uzbekistan,” she said.  

Khojayeva added that from May to early July, Tajikistan also exported 13.2 million kWh of electricity to Afghanistan, 21 million kWh to Kyrgyzstan and 9.8 million kWh to Kazakhstan.
