DUSHANBE, May 28, 2014, Asia-Plus — Residents of the Ishkashim district in the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO), who gathered outside the building of the district administration yesterday demanding the resignation of the local police chief, dispersed yesterday evening after a meeting with Deputy Interior Minister Abdullo Navjuvanov.
An official source at the GBAO regional administration says Navjuvanov has promised to examine the situation concerning the chief of the Ishkashim police station Bahodur Kholiqov.
We will recall that residents of Ishkashim gathered outside the district administration’s building yesterday demanding the resignation of the chief of the Interior Ministry’s office in the Ishkashim district Bahodur Kholiqov.
According to a source at the GBAO regional administration, the Ishkashim police station chief insulted local youth and thereby he provoked outrage of the local population.
Deputy Interior Minister, Abdullo Navjuvanov, and the presidential adviser on national security, Sherali Khairulloyev arrived in Ishkashim to find out the circumstances.
In May 2013, Ishkashim residents expressed discontent in over an incident that involved Suhrob Davlatov, an officer of the border unit deployed in Ishkashim. In February 2014, Davlatov was sentenced to two years in jail for sexual ties with local underage girl.
Meanwhile, Tajik chief prosecutor Sherkhon Salimzoda arrived in Khorog, the capital of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region to meet with representatives of local authorities and the population.
