, Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu”adzam Shah said Monday night that Malaysia will maintain and continue to forge closer ties with the Republic of Tajikistan for the benefit and mutual prosperity of the two countries.
He said although trade and economic relations between the two countries had yet to be fully achieved there was tremendous momentum in this field in recent years.
“I take note of the discussions held between the two countries in order to boost efforts to strengthen cooperation in various fields, including economy, tourism, education, energy, science and technology as well the relationship between the people,” he said at a state banquet in honor of the President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon.
Tuanku Abdul Halim was accompanied by Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Hajah Haminah while Rahmon was accompanied by his wife Azizamoh Rahmon.
Also present were Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and his wife Puan Sri Noorainee Abdul Rahman.
The King was also confident that Rahmon”s visit would open up a new era in bilateral ties between Malaysia and Tajikistan and he would like to see greater cooperation in higher education between both countries.
“I hope more Tajikistan students will choose Malaysia as an education destination to pursue their studies,” he said.
Meanwhile in his speech, Emomali Rahmon said Tajikistan and Malaysia shared common interests and were equally keen in ensuring progress and prosperity of the nations, in enduring peace and genuine stability.
“We are convinced that despite the geographic location and long distance our countries are capable of becoming a model of productive and fruitful cooperation,” he said.
