DUSHANBE, July 30, 2014, Asia-Plus — According to findings by the Agency for State Financial Control and Combating Corruption, corruption has cost Tajikistan at more than 62.1 million somoni over the first six months of this year, the anticorruption agency chief Abdufattoh Ghoib told journalists in Dushanbe on July 30.

“835 corruption-related crime shave been detected in January-June this year, which is 66 cases fewer than in the same period last year,” said Ghoib.  “Inspections carried out by the anticorruption agencies over the report period have revealed more than 62.1 million somoni worth of damage and only 17.3 million somoni have been reimbursed so far.”

Over the report period, the anticorruption officers have reportedly revealed 245 cases of embezzlement and misappropriation of funds, 317 cases of fraud, 23 cases of office abuse, 66 cases of bribery, 10 cases of commercial graft, and 23 cases of extortion of remuneration.
