KULOB, August 4, 2014, Asia-Plus — Public transport fares have doubled in the southern city of Kulob, while gasoline prices here risen only some 10 percent.
Public transport drivers raised fares from 1.00 somoni on August 3 to 2.00 somoni on August 4. Meanwhile gasoline prices have risen only some 10 percent.
The price for one liter of 92-octane gasoline rose in Kulob from 5.30 somoni on August 3 to 5.80 somoni on August 4.
Meanwhile, before the holy Muslim month of Ramadan, the price for one liter of 92-octane gasoline in Kulob was 4.60 somoni.
Employees of five gas stations operating in Kulob say the price hike has resulted from increasing gasoline prices in Dushanbe.
