DUSHANBE, September 12, 2014, Asia-Plus — Tajik President Emomali Rahmon yesterday evening received his Uzbek counterpart Islam Karimov, who arrived in Dushanbe to attend a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
According to the Tajik president’s official website, President Rahmon noted that cooperation with Uzbekistan is one of priorities of Tajikistan’s foreign policy.
“We are interested in strengthening of equal relations with fraternal Uzbekistan, expansion of cooperation in all areas,” Tajik leader said.
Both presidents declared for expansion of friendly and good-neighborly relations between their countries.
They reportedly expressed confidence that all obstacles existing in the way of development of relations between the two neighboring countries will be removed.
A two-way trade between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan has reportedly fallen over the past seven years from 300 million U.S. dollars to 2.1 million U.S. dollars.
