DUSHANBE, September 29, 2014, Asia-Plus – Dilshod Nazarov (hummer throwing) and Zalimkhan Yusupov (freestyle wrestling) have won two medals for Tajikistan in the XVII Asia Games in South Korea.

Dilshod Nazarov on September 27 fulfilled his role as favorite and added a third Asian Games hammer gold to add to the ones he won in 2006 and 2010 with a best effort of 76.82m in the fourth round.

According to the 2014 Asian Games website, Nazarov’s four final efforts were all over 76 meters and although he was below his best – in fact, only one of his 14 other competitions this season has been worse for distance – he was still more than three meters better than his nearest rival.

Zalimkhan Yusupov brought a silver medal to Tajikistan, finishing second in the men”s 65kg freestyle in Incheon, on September 28.  In final, he lost to London Olympic bronze medalist Yogeshwar Dutt (India).

Dilshod Nazarov (born May 6, 1982) is a Tajikistani track and field athlete who specializes in the hammer throw. He has represented his country at the Olympic Games on three occasions (in 2004, 2008 and 2012).  He has competed four times at the World Championships in Athletics (2005 to 2011), but has been most successful at regional competitions: he won medals at four consecutive Asian Athletics Championships and was the hammer champion at the Asian Games in 2006 and 2010. He won his first global medal (silver) in 2010 at the IAAF Continental Cup.  His personal best for the event is 80.71 meters, set in 2013, which is the Tajik national record.

Zalimkhan Yusupov (born February 19, 1984 in Makhachkala) is a Tajikistani freestyle wrestler.  He competed in the freestyle 66 kg event at the 2012 Summer Olympics; after defeating Alan Gogayev in the qualifications, he was eliminated by Haislan Garcia in the 1/8 finals.

The 2014 Asian Games, officially known as the XVII Asiad, is a multi-sport event celebrated in Incheon, South Korea from September 19 – October 4, 2014, with 439 events in 36 sports and disciplines set to feature in the Games.
