DUHANBE, July 7, 2008, Asia-Plus — Tajik law-enforcement authorities have seized some 3,569 kilograms of narcotics in the first six months of 2008, which is 24.3 percent more than in the same period of last year, according to the Drug Control Agency (DCA) statistics.
The totaled included 1,030 kilograms of heroin, 1,359 kilograms of raw opium, and some 1,179 kilograms of cannabis.
During the same six-month period, officers from the counter narcotics agency alone have warded off 52 attempts of smuggling drugs into the country. Over the report period, the drug control officers have seized 952.442 kilograms of drugs, which is 82.6 percent more than in January-June 2007.
