Tajikistan’s external trade turnover grows 6.3 percent in 2014

DUSHANBE, January 14, 2015, Asia-Plus — In 2014, the external trade turnover of Tajikistan, including electrical power and natural gas, amounted to 5.319 billion U.S. dollars, which was 106.3 percent of the 2014 level or 314 million USD more, the first deputy head of the Customs Service under the Government of Tajikistan, Nemat Rahmatov, announced at a news conference in Dushanbe on January 14.  

The trade balance was negative and amounted to more than 3.3 billion U.S. dollars.

According to Rahmatov, exports of goods in 2014 amounted to 979 million U.S. dollars and imports of goods into the country last year amounted to more than 4.3 billion USD.  

 “In 2014, Tajikistan’s top import products were oil products, alumina, transport means, wheat and flour, while major export products last year included primary aluminum (24 percent), cotton fiber (14 percent) and fruits and vegetables (4 percent),” Rahmatov noted.   

In 2014, Tajikistan reportedly had trade relations with more than 100 countries of the world, including ten CIS nations.

“Last year, major supplying partners of Tajikistan were: Russia, which accounted for 27.5 percent of Tajikistan’s imports; China – 16.8 percent; Kazakhstan – 15.7 percent; and Switzerland – 5 percent,” Tajik customs official added.

Meanwhile, the top six importers of Tajik good in 2014 were: Switzerland – 27 percent; Turkey – 26 percent; Kazakhstan – 18 percent; Iran – 7 percent; Russia – 6 percent; and Afghanistan – 5 percent.     

We will recall that in 2013 the external trade turnover of Tajikistan amounted to some 5 billion U.S. dollars, which was 102.9 percent of the 2012 level or 146.7 million U.S. dollars more.
