DUSHANBE, January 16, 2015, Asia-Plus – Tajikistan’s Higher Economic Court has upheld the Dushanbe Economic Court’s verdict over complaints filed by two mobile phone operators against the inspection certificates issued by the Tax Committee.
An official source at the Higher Economic Court says the Dushanbe Economic Court had accepted claims filed by representatives of TT-Mobile and Tacom that are providing mobile communication services against the inspection certificates issued by the Tax Committee.
“In its documents, the Tax Committee notes that Tacom’s tax debts for 2014 amount to 16,488,459 somoni and TT-Mobile’s tax debts for 2013 amount to 74.789 million somoni,” said the source. “The Dushanbe Economic Court accepted the claims filed by TT-Mobile and Tacom and the Higher Economic Court upheld the latter’s verdict.”
Meanwhile, the Tax Committee says that tax debts of another mobile phone operator, Babilon-Mobile, amount to 341 million somoni.
Tajik tax officials note that the amount is disputable because the company does not admit the tax debt and refuse to pay it.
According to the Tax Committee, the debts have accrued since 2011. Babilon-Mobile is on the register of dominants of the country’s telecommunications market, and therefore, before introducing new fees the company must coordinate them with the antimonopoly agency. Babilon-Mobile has not coordinated its fees with the antimonopoly agency, the tax officials noted.
Babilon-Mobile has not agreed with the tax debt amount and decided to appeal to a court. Representatives of the Higher Economic Court have refrained from commenting on the case, noting that the hearing of the case has not yet been completed.
